Applying Harder Isn’t the Answer
Pharmacists (Remote PA, MTM & CMR) and aspiring MSLs: would you ever pay someone to help you land a job?
It’s happening more than you think.
A recent national news story highlighted the rise of “reverse recruiting” — where job seekers pay recruiters to represent them in the job market.
Why?
Because even highly qualified professionals are struggling to get jobs.
– White-collar layoffs are increasing
– Hiring pauses are common
– AI tools have made it easy to mass-apply
– Recruiters are overwhelmed
– Strong candidates are getting lost
When companies pay recruiters, it’s because talent is scarce.
When candidates pay recruiters, it’s because jobs are scarce.
Some firms are charging: – $1,500 per month – $15K to land a job – 10% of first-year salary upon placement
For a $120K role, that could mean $15K+ out of pocket.
So the question becomes:
Is the problem your qualifications…
Or your positioning?
Here’s what I’m seeing in pharmacy & medical affairs:
Many pharmacists (Or other Terminal Ds) trying to transition into industry — especially Medical Science Liaison roles — are qualified.
But they’re: • Applying online without strategy • Using clinical resumes for industry roles • Underselling transferable value • Lacking internal visibility
And when 300+ applicants hit “Easy Apply” in 24 hours, even strong candidates disappear into the algorithm.
The reality? Getting hired at the MSL or remote level is rarely about volume.
It’s about: • Strategic positioning • Targeted outreach • Relationship-based introductions • Interview storytelling • Negotiation clarity
Should you pay someone to help you get hired?
That depends.
You should never pay for false promises.
But investing in: • Career strategy • Resume & LinkedIn positioning • Interview prep • Market insight • Industry access
That’s different.
Over the years working specifically with pharmacists, MSLs, and healthcare professionals, I’ve seen one consistent theme:
Most people don’t need more applications.
They need better strategy.
I’ve had the privilege of receiving 40+ LinkedIn recommendations from pharmacists, MDs, PhDs, and industry professionals who successfully transitioned into competitive roles.
Not because I “blast resumes.”
But because we: • Clarify the story • Define the target • Build positioning • Execute strategically
The job market is evolving.
AI is changing application behavior.
Recruiters are overloaded.
And healthcare professionals need to adapt accordingly.
If you’re navigating a career move — especially into medical affairs or remote roles — ask yourself:
Are you applying harder…
Or applying smarter?
