The Pharmacy Technician carries out various procedures to assist the pharmacist with the various medications requested. Assists pharmacists as directed with filling medication orders, preparing labels and delivery of medication or supplies to all patient care areas. Picks up medication orders from both unit dose and non-unit dose patient care areas, fills routine drug requisitions and delivers completed orders in a timely manner. Assures delivered medication are given to nursing personnel or securely stored in proper medication storage areas. Replaces floor stock medication. Reviews, maintains, rotates stock and restocks drug storage locations in main pharmacy and pharmacy satellites. Alerts Inventory Control Clerk, Pharmacist, Director of Pharmacy of drug supplies that need to be reordered. Packages pharmaceuticals, and IV medications including preparing and affixing all necessary labels to the packaged product for inspection and verification by a pharmacist. Follows established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Fills unit dose medication carts and area specific exchange carts. Performs all other duties as assigned by management. Performs minor housekeeping duties when necessary (e.g., dusting counters, vacuuming, cleaning sinks). Maintains pharmacy records (e.g., drug requisitions, crediting, charges, reports, files) as required. Attends pharmacy staff meetings. Makes suggestions to assist the pharmacy management in developing innovative programs to improve the efficiency of the drug distribution system. | |
